NominationsThe Nominating Committee shall nominate candidates for offices to be filled. This committee, chaired by the PCACAC Past-President, shall consist of five members, including the last two association presidents and three others reflecting the institutional balance relating to PCACAC membership. The chairperson of the Nominating Committee shall prepare and distribute to members at least two weeks before the Annual PCACAC Conference a list of candidates for office and a short biographical sketch of each candidate. The Nominating Committee has begun the work to consider our slate for officers for the 2012- 2013 cycle and assembly delegates to the NACAC Assembly for the fall of 2012, and announces the Call for Nominations for PCACAC officers and delegates, for elections to be held in spring 2012 for terms of office to begin July 1, 2012. The form to nominate is at the bottom of the page; nominations will close on Friday, December 2, 2011. PCACAC members may self-nominate for a position in which they are interested in serving, or you may nominate a colleague for any of the positions. The forms to be submitted include a nomination form which includes several short questions, and an institutional support letter to be signed by the nominee’s immediate supervisor. The spring ballot will consist of nominees for two PCACAC Executive Board positions:
During this election cycle we will also elect the five delegates holding specific committee assignments, who will be single-slated for election by the PCACAC/NACAC membership. During the next election cycle (spring 2013 elections) the slate will include candidates for six “at large” delegates who will also stand for election by the membership. Under our current structure, PCACAC is represented at the NACAC assembly by fourteen delegates: President, President-Elect, Past-President; Chairs of Government Relations, Human Relations, Bylaws & Credentials, Professional Development, Admission Practices; and six at-large delegates. The five delegates to be elected in spring 2012 will serve on the PCACAC President’s Council and Executive Board, actively engage in a leadership role in committee work and represent PCACAC at the NACAC Delegate Assembly starting in Denver in fall 2012. The terms of office for these five positions will be staggered to insure continuity on the PCACAC board, and will be as follows:
The commitment and expectation for delegates and leadership officers includes full and active participation in PCACAC governing meetings during the year. The specific responsibilities of each position are contained in job descriptions to be posted on the PCACAC website along with the nomination forms. The call for nominations runs now through December 2. Members of the Nominating Committee will then contact nominees to confirm their interest and solicit any additional information about their qualifications, and clarify any questions by the nominees (end of November to mid-December). The Nomination Committee will meet to select candidates who will appear on the ballot. Nominees for the ballot are notified of their selection for the ballot and to assure that they are members of PCACAC as well as NACAC. The chair of the Nominating Committee (PCACAC Past-President Jayne Fonash) will present the slate of nominees to the Executive Committee and the President’s Council at their January meeting. Information concerning the full slate of nominees will be published in The Anchor prior to the PCACAC Spring Conference (April 22-24, 2012), along with an announcement of the opening on online voting. Although the Nominations Committee presents a single slate for the two executive committee positions (President-elect and Treasurer) and for five of the eleven delegate positions, we do consider multiple applications through a nomination/application process. There are several factors that are considered in selecting the most suitable candidate for each single-slate position. These factors will include but are not limited to: state where one resides and works, gender, underrepresented areas of experience, PCACAC and NACAC experience, leadership and management experience and other professional contributions. Please take some time to think about yourself or your fellow PCACAC volunteers, who are leaders of our profession within your state. Please consider nominating this person(s) or even yourself for this wonderful volunteer leadership as well as excellent professional development opportunity. It is important that as an organization, our executive board represents our membership well, and we hope to see nominees from public and private schools, small and large institutions, urban, rural and suburban venues, and from all four states and the District of Columbia. Please feel free to contact the Nominating Committee Chair, Jayne Fonash, at 571-434-4470 or jayne.fonash@lcps.org if you have any additional questions. |
