A Message from Our President

Here we are in November, the month of students meeting early deadlines and college counselors submitting supplementary materials. Meanwhile, college admissions representatives are excited that they can finally unpack their suitcases as they look forward to spending hours each day reviewing application files. This is a normal November!

Being that we are all extremely busy, I’ll keep this short. November is the month of “Thanks”. I’d like to thank those who have made my November much easier.

  • To our college-side friends, thanks for answering my many questions on behalf of my students and parents.
  • For my fellow colleagues on the high school side, thanks for working selfishly to help those stressed students (and parents) well past the regular working hours to ensure a smooth college application process.
  • To our IEC and CBO colleagues and friends, your work with students is opening up doors and shining a light on the wonderful post-secondary options that are out there.  Thank you for your tireless work!
  • Thanks to all those behind the scenes – the application processors, the administrative assistants, and student workers who are in the trenches doing the work that is vital to this entire college process.

THANK YOU my friends and colleagues. Your time and efforts are absolutely appreciated. You make this college admissions world go ‘round! Please find time for friends, family and loved ones during this time of thanks!                 You deserve it!

Leadership Webinar Series Update...

We just concluded our inaugural Leadership Education webinar! It went very well and Jennifer Scott and Tish Canady did a great job presenting. We had 31 attendees for the first webinar - a great success! For those who were not able to join this webinar, it's not too late. You can still participate in the full program.

Ann Marie Strauss and the CTFI committee are our projected presenters for the next session, which is scheduled to be in December before the holiday break. Damian Garcia from Glenelg Country Day has generously agreed to work with Anthony to continually build this exciting new program.

The next Leadership Education webinar is on Wednesday, December 11th from 4:00-5:00 pm.

Visit www.pcacac.org/webinars for recorded webinars and to register for upcoming sessions.

Rural/Small Town SIG Conference Recap

The Rural and Small Town SIG had an AMAZING turn out (totaling 66 attendees) at their first event which took place on November 11th at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, Virginia. The event’s purpose was to provide an access point to high school counselors and career coaching staff in rural Southwest Virginia to be connected to resources to better serve their students and broaden their horizons of the opportunities that colleges can provide.

The Rural SIG Day Conference brought together representatives from more than 20 colleges and universities across Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Delaware, and Tennessee and 30 high schools in rural Virginia.

It is our hope that Rural SIG will continue this event in the future and grow to provide similar efforts in West Virginia and Eastern Shore Maryland. For more information about the Rural SIG and how you can get involved, please contact Alison Weston at [email protected].
