Congratulations 2021 Rising Star Award Winner Jonathan Gowin!

PCACAC is thrilled to announce that Jonathan Gowin, Co-Chair of the Current Trends and Future Issues Committee and Communications Committee member, was chosen by NACAC to receive the Rising Star Award!

Jonathan is an Assistant Director of Admission at Carnegie Mellon University and has been a member of PCACAC for three years. He joined our association when he was working as an admission officer at Trinity College in Connecticut after attending the PCACAC conference in College Park, Maryland. We look forward to celebrating with Jonathan in Seattle when he receives his Rising Star Award on the main stage during the NACAC National Conference. Congratulations, Jonathan! We are proud to have you as a member and a leader in our PCACAC family.

Coming to a Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Stitcher app near you: The Anchor Exchange: A PCACAC P(C)odcast!

Students navigating the college admissions process rely on admissions officers and college & school counselors to guide them through the complicated landscape of higher education. However, to whom do admission officers and counselors turn for support? They look to one another: to the small and deep network of colleagues and peers for guidance and fellowship.
The Anchor Exchange promises to be a source of relevant and purposeful support by providing a new space for the voices of college admission to be heard. Seasoned professionals—names that may be familiar to you—will share their insight, but we’ll also highlight our colleagues who often work and innovate under the radar: the “unsung heroes” of PCACAC. Through guest interviews and careful research, we will unpack the themes we encounter every day on the front lines of college admission. The context of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice will be interwoven into each conversation. These themes will include, but not be limited to:
  • Student Recruitment
  • Wellness & Self-Care
  • Next Generation Professionals
  • Governance & Policy
Please contact Jonathan Gowin with any questions about the show or to suggest future discussion topics and potential guests!

Registration is open for PCACAC's Fall College Fairs!

Registration is now open to counselors, parents and students for PCACAC's Virtual College Fairs!  We're excited to partner with StriveScan to host FREE fairs on September 19th and 20th.

During each fair, participants will have the chance to connect with some of the best colleges and universities across the U.S. and abroad. Choose who you'd like to network with when registering for each session. Learn more and register at www.strivescan.com/pcacac! We look forward to sharing this virtual experience with each of you!

Join the Government Relations Committee!

Last year, the Government Relations Committee found success having virtual meetings with state legislatures as well as participating in NACAC's National Advocacy Day.  In June 2021, committee members Kevin Terry, Melissa Stoker, Rachel Cleaver, Ginger Miller, Patrick Colonna, David Hautanen, and Ryan Hannifin met (virtually) with Senator Mark Warner's office.

The Government Relations Committee works to identify areas of governmental policy that affect student and educational interests and  recommend educational policy positions. Acting as a liaison with the NACAC Government Relations Committee, the members of the Committee coordinate efforts to keep PCACAC members informed of current issues in college admission counseling and educational policy at the state and national levels. The Committee also serves as a resource for legislators.  As the new academic year begins, the Government Relations Committee is looking for new members.  If you are interested in joining the committee, please email Ryan Hannifin, Government Relations Chair.

Counselor Resource Center:

The Community College SIG meets monthly from September through June.  We are a team of public, private, and independent professionals whose range of serving students spans the middle school exploratory years through the four-year university experience.  Our goal is to provide a one-stop-shop for professionals to guide their students and their families through the college transfer process - from college credits earned in high school to community college degrees through earning a degree from a four-year university.

If you are interested in joining our SIG, please reach out to Melloney Johnson or Stephanie Stahler

Call Out for Communication Committee Members!

The PCACAC Communication Committee is looking for some seriously awesome new ideas and new folks to share those ideas. Currently the Communications Committee shares information via social media accounts and produces the bi-weekly Anchor Splash.

Ideas for the future of the Communications Committee are wide open. The goals are to keep our membership informed of what is happening in our affiliate and nationally, produce interesting/relevant content that will help us express the value of PCACAC to current and prospective members.

Some ideas for future projects might include:

  • Establishing a PCACAC Tik Tok account/creating content
  • Producing Member spotlight pieces including video interviews in addition to print
  • Student spotlight/testimonials (video/print)
  • PCACAC Institution spotlights (high schools/colleges/CBOs/IEC offices)
  • Day in the life series (counselors/admissions professionals/IECs/CBO members/PCACAC & NACAC members
  • Interviews w/NACAC/NASFAA/ACCIS/School Counseling Association members, Principals/Heads of School, etc.

We are looking for energetic and visionary colleagues who can help us build and invigorate the Communications Committee.

PCACAC asks you to consider this invitation to serve the association. Is it your time? We hope so!

Please contact Ann Marie Strauss for further information and to volunteer.
